Diversity and inclusion in medical schools

We do a disservice in academics to have a goal of diversity in medical school or within the resident program and then not do a lot of work around how to retain, support, promote it, etc. Simply recruiting people in a general way is not the answer.

If an individual/student already feels less than, not as well represented or supported then it wreaks havoc on all aspects of their lives. It makes doing the job you’re supposed to do immensely difficult.
